Today the official Star Wars Instagram account confirmed long-standing rumors that Kylo Ren will be getting an upgraded re-release for the Disney Infinity 3.0 video game with an illuminated “Light FX” version of his interactive figure.

No release date was announced for this must-have statuette with a sizzling saber, but the Instagram post promised “details to come at” A new batch of figures are due to be released this coming Tuesday.

UPDATE: Amazon has the figure listed for release on April 5. That’s the same day as Kylo Ren’s Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, debuts on Blu-ray and DVD.

The atmospheric photo that accompanied the post was credited to a frankly amazing toy photographer known as sgtbananas:

UPDATE #2: The Star Wars website has published an interview with the photographer.

Light FX figures already exist for Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kanan Jarrus and Darth Vader. The enhancements came after the non-illuminated releases, and required slightly bulkier lightsaber handles to accommodate the lighting effects, which are triggered when placed on the Disney Infinity base or other NFC platforms such as those used in LEGO Dimensions and Skylanders. They all cost a dollar more than the regular editions and remain retailer exclusives, though there’s no indication just yet where Kylo Ren might be sold — or even whether that cozy arrangement even extends to his Light FX incarnation.

Here and there ...
