App-y campers

App camp (Tim Hacker, East Valley Tribune)Tim Hacker, EVT

I remember when Space Camp was every kid’s dream. With the manned space program effectively out of commission, has this been replaced with “app camps?”

The East Valley Tribune follows a bunch of Valley kids taking part in iD Tech Camps hosted this summer at Arizona State University. These campers learn how to code games, mobile apps and other multimedia creations over seven weeks. Read more here.

The story doesn’t mention the camps’ tuition — which is considerably high, and probably prohibitively so for many families. But it does stress what’s becoming clear — code is everywhere, and those who know it will be the leaders of their generation.
