Disney and Lucasfilm has confirmed long-rumored casting of Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro in Star Wars: Episode VIII. That came along with the official announcement that filming is under way, and also brought surprise word that Oscar nominee Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) has joined the production.

We don’t yet know what characters Del Toro and Dern will be playing, but speculation has swirled around Del Toro being a villain in the movie. We shall see!

Kelly Marie TranAlso joining the cast is “talented newcomer Kelly Marie Tran” in an unspecified role. Read more about her here.

This is the only synopsis we have so far:

Rey took her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will continue her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode VIII, which began principal photography at Pinewood Studios in London on February 15, 2016.

The video above, featuring Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley and writer/director Rian Johnson, was released along with the production announcement.
