Filming has begun! The BBC has released the first photo of new Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi on set with companion Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman.
New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.
“New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world,” Capaldi said as he arrived on set in Cardiff, according to the BBC.
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added: “First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins.”
The BBC says the first episode of Series Eight was written by Moffat, with the second episode penned by Phil Ford. Ben Wheatley is directing these two first episodes on Capaldi’s shooting schedule. Filming is set to wrap in August.
They also really, really want you to know that this is not the new Doctor’s new costume, so you can ignore all the headlines screaming that it is from sources who didn’t do their proper research! It looks rather like the bowtie-less outfit he wore in the Matt Smith 11th/13th Doctor body when he miraculously regenerated after getting a new lease on life. Watch below!
Don’t you just love what may be the new Doctor’s mischievous musical motif? Kind of like an ancient pat-a-pan Christmas carol, no?
