Satoru Iwata, president and CEO of Nintendo, passed away on Saturday according to a press release from the gaming company. The 55-year-old’s death was attributed to a reported growth in his bile duct.

Satoru Iwata had a long career at Nintendo, being appointed as a director in 2000 and gaining the title of company president in June 2013. Iwata was well known among gamers and industry members alike, as he was often featured in funny videos announcing Nintendo games and software.

Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda remain as two representative directors to serve at Nintendo in light of Iwata’s passing.
