Duel in the desert! March 18 will see the rematch Star Wars Rebels viewers have been waiting for: Maul vs. Kenobi in the sands of Tatooine.
The fates of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul have long been intertwined. From their fateful duel in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace where Kenobi left Maul for dead, to their tragic reunion in The Clone Wars when Maul wreaked havoc across the galaxy before disappearing once again.
Now, as foretold in visions — and the Legends of the old Star Wars “Expanded Universe” comics — the two nemeses are drawn back into each other’s orbit for one more, possibly final, confrontation.
In the long-awaited Rebels episode “Twin Suns,” the dark warrior finally has managed to track down his old Jedi enemy to the desert wastes of Tatooine. Will their rivalry come to an end? The all-new episode airs 8:30 p.m. Eastern/Pacific March 18 on Disney XD. Watch the promo, and check out these exciting preview images:
The episode title (“Twin Suns”) seems appropriate for more than just the venue of this showdown, for while they’re not brothers, Maul and Kenobi are certainly burning hot — one with rage, the other with resolution to protect the Jedi legacy and New Hope growing up under his watchful eye under the desert stars.
While this epic confrontation have made for an excellent series finale, we now at least know that Rebels will continue into a fourth season.
First, though, the Ghost crew has to figure out why their cantankerous droid is acting more unusal than usual in this Saturday’s “Double Agent Droid.” Watch a clip here.
