Kelly Marie Tran, described by Disney as a “talented newcomer,” will play an unspecified role in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is now under production.
Her credits include mostly TV series, online series and shorts such as CollegeHumor Originals, Comedy Bang! Bang! and the TV series About a Boy, but that resume’s about to get a lot thicker.
Along with Hollywood luminaries, the Star Wars films have always been known as launching pads for undiscovered talent.
In Episode VIII, Tran joins Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro and Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, as well as returning cast members from Episode VII: The Force Awakens Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis.
To celebrate and announce the start of Episode VIII filming officially, director Rian Johnson released a short video that revisits the ending of The Force Awakens.
