The rumors have been pretty hard to ignore: Jenna Coleman is bowing out of Doctor Who. Now it’s official. The time-traveling Doctor’s current companion will soon be a former companion.

The BBC confirmed the rumors today, and Coleman followed that up with a talk-show appearance.

In the clip below, she reveals that her final scenes as TARDIS crew member Clara Oswald alongside Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi have already been filmed. This means Coleman will depart sometime during Series 9, which premieres Saturday on BBC America with “The Magician’s Apprentice.” The episode kicks off of a new two-part episode that also features the return of Michelle Gomez as the diabolical Missy.

The “Impossible Girl” routine got a bit heavy-handed at times, but I have to admit that Clara is one of my favorite recent Doctor Who companions. I will miss her. However, change has always been a huge part of the series. I’m excited to see who will be trying to keep up with the Doctor next.
