Finn with lightsaber in The Force Awakens

A new teaser released Thursday on the Star Wars Instagram account shows John Boyega’s character Finn igniting his lightsaber amid of flurry of snow, seemingly confronting Adam Driver’s villainous Kylo Ren. We knew from the recently revealed poster for The Force Awakens that he would take up the weapon of a Jedi Knight.

(By the way, Empire Online recently unveiled a sweet new shot of Kylo Ren, and offered details from J.J. Abrams that reveal, among other things, that he is no Sith Lord.)

First Order muster

The teaser also marks the official American debut of a brief shot of the First Order mustering its forces, which we saw in a recent Korean TV trailer.

But that’s not all! We also get a brief new shot of Daisy Ridley’s character Rey looking worried in verdant surroundings with the spherical droid BB-8, and what sounds like a new recording of Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) reciting his “There has been an awakening” line from the film’s very first teaser trailer. And just a hint of the old “Imperial March” theme heralding the Dark Side of the Force.

Why Instagram and not YouTube? The mobile photo- and video-sharing app had just enabled “panoramic” media, versus the square uploads it had allowed previously. So why not?
