Steampunk Street returns to downtown Mesa

As you read this, you’re probably just getting over March’s Second Friday block party in downtown Mesa.

Well, hold onto your soot-stained stetson: Once again, Main Street from Robson to MacDonald in downtown Mesa will be transformed into a Victorian alley enhanced with gadgets and rayguns as Evermore Nevermore, Mystic Paper and downtown Mesa’s Second Friday block party presents “Steampunk Street II” on April 8.

As always, steampunk attire is encouraged, as are cameras, and local artisans are sought to help create the required atmosphere of fantasy technobabble. Future Kind will kindly provide the retro-future tunes.

The nearby Nile Theater will host the Future Kind show, a sci-fi fashion show and a steampunk-themed Vaudeville show.

Local arts anthology Restless is also getting in on the act, seeking submissions for a special steampunk-themed issue to distribute at the art walk and fashion event, so be sure to check their website for guidelines and more information. It’s riveting (my favorite steampunk joke — it never gets old … seriously).
