Two high school bands from the East Valley — Gilbert’s Braincage and Mesa’s No Big Deal — will perform at the Geek Prom on May 29 at Phoenix Comicon.

“I love their music,” said Katie Charland, Phoenix Comicon’s community outreach manager. “You can tell they have fun performing.”

Trio Braincage has been performing at high school and local events throughout the Valley, writing their own music. Four-piece band No Big Deal will be playing convention-flavored covers as well as some original tunes.

Performing earlier that Saturday in the Hyatt Regency ballroom will be geeky Seattle rock band Kirby Krackle, multimedia musicians A Life of Science and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel star James Marsters.

Friday, May 28, will see performances from anime song cover band Kitsune Robot, zombie-werewolf horror band Spawn Atomic and international “horror punk heartthrobs” Calabrese.
