The sun-shade has been placed over the windshield of another Phoenix Comicon, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t plenty of heat at the 2017 event.
Between the high temperatures and the confusion surrounding the “No Prop Weapons” ban – not to mention the PHXCC volunteer controversy from a few months back – this year is likely to go down as one of the most colorful in Arizona’s fandom history.
A photo recap of some of the costumes and curiosities from Phoenix Comicon 2017:
While pop culture enthusiasts debate the likelihood of life on Mars, the aliens themselves walk among us. (This “Mars Attacks” model is my favorite costume from this year’s con!)
Thanks to the “No Prop Weapons” policy and bag inspections, there were some scary long lines at this year’s con.
“The Dude” always abides the “No Prop Weapons” policy.
For some reason I doubt that “Lobo” reads Star Wars novels – or any books for that matter.
Doctor Doom has no problem with the “No Prop Weapons” policy; he just brings the real things.
Here’s the winner of the “Most Comfortable Costume” prize at PHXCC 2017 (as awarded by Nerdvana.)
This proud pet owner dubbed her pooch, “Radioactive Dog!” Giving the little canine the proportionate strength of a… uhh… dog?
The comic-book legend, Jim Shooter, demonstrates his sequential-art moves to an admiring crowd.
