More than 500 fans of science fiction and fantasy are preparing to take over the Phoenix Marriott Mesa on May 14-16 for the 36th annual LepreCon convention.
Fantasy author George R.R. Martin (pictured) will be the guest of honor at LepreCon 36. His best-known work, A Song of Ice and Fire, was recently picked up as a series by HBO starring Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings) and Lena Heady (300, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). The artist guest of honor will be Charles Vess. James A. Owen, who writes and illustrates the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica series, is the local artist/author guest of honor. The musical guest is Emma Bull.
The convention will also feature an art show and auction, a charity auction, gaming, a dealers’ room, modern dance and more. Convention staff is looking for game organizers and volunteers. For more information, visit leprecon.org/lep36/.
And be sure to check out the Nerdvana local convention calendar, where you can scope out other conventions in the near future and submit your own event to be included in the listing. Phoenix Comicon and RandomCon are both around the corner — and those are just the summer events!
