LepreCon 44 cancels 2018 Phoenix Science Fiction and Fantasy Art Expo

LepreCon 44The Phoenix Science Fiction and Fantasy Art Expo, which was scheduled for March 16-18, 2018, in conjunction with and presented by LepreCon 44, is apparently canceled — but may be retooled.

LepreCon Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that promotes science fiction and fantasy fandom, mainly with the annual convention of the same name that has run since 1975.

According to the group’s Facebook page and website, “LepreCon 44, in the form of the Phoenix Sci-Fi & Fantasy Art Expo, which was scheduled for March 2018 at the Unexpected Art Gallery, has been cancelled. LepreCon, Inc. is no longer associated with any event of that name.

“In November 2017, Woody Bernardi was elected chair of a new LepreCon 44. Details will be posted soon.”

LepreCon update:

An earlier headline has been changed to remove language that suggested a break between LepreCon and the Phoenix Sci-Fi & Fantasy Art Expo; LepreCon’s social media coordinator, Earl C. Hedges Jr., said LepreCon owns the trademark for the art expo and had to cancel the event because of unforeseen circumstances beyond its control. He said LepreCon may move forward with the concept in the future at a different venue.
