Arizona State University in Tempe on Saturday is hosting the state championship tournament of the FIRST LEGO League, a global robotics program for ages 9-14 and part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering’s K-12 outreach programs.
A coach and mentors help the young builders research real-world problems based on a theme (transportation security), present their findings and solutions and build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts.
The goal is to get youths to think like scientists and engineers — while having a lot of fun and working together as a team.
