On Saturday, June 19, hobby game retailers and RPG publishers will team up to bring free quickstart rules and adventure modules to customers as part of Free RPG Day. Gamers across the globe will be able to grab brand-new material for a variety of pen-and-paper roleplaying games — no overstock, retail-priced or dead product here.
The goal is to get gamers inspired to play a new RPG, which can create sales through local game stores.
Some of the names involved are Wizards of the Coast, which is offering a 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons adventure set in the revived world of Dark Sun; Paizo Publishing, which will offer an adventure for its Pathfinder game, based on popular the D&D 3.5 rules; Q-Workshop, which will give away free dice; and Goodman Games, which is offering an adventure for their Age of Cthulhu game. Many more contributors are listed here, and are worth checking out.
East Valley game stores involved so far include Gamer’s Inn in Mesa and The Game Depot in Tempe. You can search for more on the official Free RPG Day website.
