Free Comic Book DayWe never got to see the “mirror universe” in Star Trek: The Next Generation (unless you count the mind’s eye for those who read Diane Duane’s Dark Mirror novel). IDW Publishing is rectifying that with their Free Comic Book Day offering “Mirror Broken.”

UPDATE: StarTrek.com has shared a synopsis for “Mirror Broken,” which is written by Scott Tipton and David Tipton with art by J.K. Woodward:

Space… The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the I.S.S. Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to conquer strange new worlds, to enslave new life and new civilizations… to boldly go where no one has gone before! Return to the Mirror Universe with The Next Generation crew in a way you’ve never seen them before in this prequel to the upcoming Star Trek: The Next Generation miniseries, Mirror Broken. Captain Jean-Luc Picard will stop at nothing to get his hands on the Terran Empire’s newest starship, the Enterprise-D. And no one had better stand in his way.

Among other Free Comic Book Day offerings that will be up for grabs May 6, 2017, is a sample of Viz Media’s The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess manga adaptation with story and art from Akira Himekawa that will also include an excerpt from The Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition, Vol. 1: Ocarina of Time (which is already available and makes a great gift for the Hyrule fanatic in your life).

Also keep your eyes peeled for Titan’s Doctor Who story featuring the four modern incarnations of the wandering Time Lord teaming up for an “astounding new story!”

For the full list of the 2017 event’s free titles, including a look at the exclusive Rick and Morty, Betty & Veronica and Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Plants vs. Zombies, Dragon Ball Super and Attack on Titan comics and more, visit the official Free Comic Book Day website, where you can also find your nearest participating comic book store.

Of course, it’s not all about the freebies — or shouldn’t be. Do your local shop a solid and use the event as an excuse to find a few purchases (preferably, the kind that will keep you coming back for more!). Support your local scene if you want to it to be there for you in the future …

This year’s FCBD promotional materials include a Free Comic Book Day official T-shirt that will feature a design from Butch Hartman, the creator of Danny Phantom and The Fairly Odd Parents, as well as a poster from Marvel cover artist Afua Richardson and bookmark from BOOM! Studios’ Rian Sygh.

What are you looking forward to the most this Free Comic Book Day?
