The downtown Mesa 2nd Friday art walk is starting off the New Year with a focus on film & fun at their January “Film Fest” block party. The themed festival kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13th, 2012, and runs until around 10:00 p.m.

Movie fans are encouraged to come out to the party dressed as their favorite film star, and as part of the themed activities, there will be a Movie Star Look-alike Contest at the OneOhOne Gallery at 8:00 p.m. There will also be Movie Trivia with prizes given away all evening as well.

Professionals and hobbyists are encouraged to submit short films to the OneOhOne Gallery’s Short Film Contest. Show attendees will vote for their favorites during screenings at 7:30 p.m. & 9:00 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. You can find details for submitting your film at the 2nd Friday Facebook event page.

Several other themed events are being planned and you can get more information on event night at the Information Booth at the Southwest corner of Main and MacDonald. Be sure to check out the cadre of artists at Gotham City Comics & Coffee, as well as the vinyl toy exhibits at Rusted Nail Gallery and Lulubell Toys. It’s all on Main Street in historic downtown Mesa, next 2nd Friday.
