Phoenix’s First Friday ArtWalk will be invaded by elemental superpowers on July 2.
Artists and performers representing the four elements will celebrate the opening weekend of the Paramount-Nickelodeon movie “The Last Airbender,” based on the Nickelodeon animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
(The word “Avatar” was dropped from the live-action theatrical release to avoid confusion with a small art film by James Cameron that came out last winter.)
Firebreathers, martial artists, Taiko drummers and artwork inspired by the natural elements that fuel the characters’ supernatural powers will be featured, and guests will be encouraged to create their own pieces of art — and enter a contest to win prize packs from “The Last Airbender” as well as snag a limited supply of film posters.
Catch the action 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the 909 Gallery, 909 N 5th St., Phoenix.
