Wasp’s big-screen debut completes an Avengers legacy of sorts

Classic Dungeons & Dragons back in print! - Available now @ Dungeon Masters Guild

We’re all still grappling in our own ways with the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War, so some light-hearted mayhem in Ant-Man and the Wasp is probably just what the doctor ordered — though we’ll have to wait and see if the infamous Post-Credits Scene(s) let(s) us continue to enjoy the frivolity.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp also connects directly to Avengers 4,” producer Kevin Feige says in a new featurette from Marvel Studios looking at the Wasp’s history and legacy. “These characters are going to be very important going forward.”

“These characters” presumably include not only Ant-Man aka Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and the Wasp herself, Evangeline Lilly, but her mother Hope, the original Wasp, played here by Michelle Pfeiffer, and father Hank Pym (Michael Douglas).

Among the new movie’s buzz, those who’ve seen the Ant-Man sequel have been saying that it may reveal the actual title of Avengers 4.

As the featurette notes, the Wasp’s involvement with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes dates back to the cover of Avengers #1. “Finally, ever single character from that first issue of Avengers is here, on the big screen,” says producer Kevin Feige.

Lilly was a tour de force as Hope van Dyne in the original Ant-Man movie, wearing the Wasp suit or no — and. as Feige notes, there was a flashback of the original Janet version of the Wasp — but it’s great to finally see this “legacy character” getting her due in real time.

“About damn time,” indeed!

Ant-Man and the Wasp opens July 6.
