The casting rumors have heated up in recent weeks and now The Hollywood Reporter says that the role of Captain America has been offered to and accepted by Chris Evans. He’ll take up the iconic shield in next summer’s “The First Avenger: Captain America.”
Evans is best-known for his role as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, in the two Fantastic Four movies. But that’s not his only comic book credibility, he’s also in the upcoming film adaptations of DC Comics’ The Losers and Brian Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
I liked Evans in the two FF movies. He was actually the best thing about them. He was the only one of the group that I really bought into as their character. He’ll need to bring that same effort to the Star-Spangled Avenger. Cap is a character the audience really needs to believe in or I don’t think the movie will work. I’m optimistic though, with his recent return to the main stage in comics, the time has never been better for a jump to the silver screen.
