There’s more than toons at Phoenix Comicon. There’s also tunes.
Organizers announced in November that international “horror punk heartthrobs” Calabrese will be performing at the convention. The trio of brothers has supported bands such as The Misfits, Nekromatrix and Tiger Army in live shows, and now they’re headlining Phoenix Comicon’s live nighttime music scene May 27-30 at the Hyatt Regency.
“We are a very lucky band, our fans are amazing and I think selling our souls is really paying off,” said Jimmy Calabrese, one of the band members, in a statement for Phoenix Comicon.
The music doesn’t stop with Calabrese. Other bands scheduled to perform at the Hyatt include Kirby Krackle, a Seattle nerd rock band; Bad Cactus Brass Band, a New Orleans Second Live Street band; Kitsune Robot, an anime song cover band; and Spawn Atomic, a horror band with zombie- and werewolf-infused lyrics.
You can sample many of the artists’ work at the Phoenix Comicon website.
“We have some great bands lining up to play at the Hyatt Regency, our host hotel for our evening and nighttime programming,” said convention director Matt Solberg. “A lot of people don’t know how great the music scene is going to be at Phoenix Comicon.”
While the bands will play at the downtown Phoenix Hyatt Regency, the greater con takes place at the new Phoenix Convention Center, a departure from longtime host downtown Mesa. Membership ranges from $15 for Sunday-only access to $30 for full access. Children 12 and younger get in free with a paid adult membership. For more information, check out PhoenixComicon.com.
