Tired of flailing around trying to bring a Justice League movie to the big screen while Disney reaps the rewards of acquiring Marvel, Warner Bros. has reportedly decided to hand the reins of its own superhero franchises to Christopher Nolan, bringing on Zack Snyder to produce and Christian Bale to reprise his role as Batman. Supposedly it all begins with Man of Steel, which is generating enormous positive buzz around Hollywood.
One rumor — and this truly is what I hope happens — is that the Justice League concept gets scrapped, or at least put on the shelf, in favor of a “World’s Finest” approach, focusing just on the Superman/Batman teamup that has been so successful over the years in comics and animation, with Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill again donning the red cape.
Warner’s DC live-action superhero strategy clearly needs someone with a firm hand on the rudder so that all the strides made by the Nolan Dark Knight trilogy and upcoming Man of Steel don’t get flushed with the Green Lanterns of the bunch — and who better than Nolan, really? [Latino Review]
Speaking of Marvel (but not Disney): Halle Berry has been confirmed to joined the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past, reprising her role as Ororo “Storm” Munroe. She joins a boatload of recent cast additions to the timeline-bending epic, including Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart — and Peter Dinklage. Clearly, 20th Century Fox has seen the value in pulling out all the stops, Avengers–style, and decided there is no such thing as too many mutants! Amen. [Deadline]
