There has been another recent announcement from SEGA regarding the re-launch of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series. A few days ago, it had been released that the comic series was breaking their partnership from Archie comics and getting a fresh start in 2018. That announcement stated that, “This does not mark the end of Sonic in comics, but signifies SEGA of America’s decision to take a different direction for the series that will be announced at a later date.” The full story of this particular announcement can read here.
That later date came, and the news that Sonic comics will be re-launching in 2018 and will now be partnered with IDW Publishing. At the moment, according to the announcement post, creative teams are being formed as well as writers and artists coming together to start the new series.
I personally think this is great news. The fact that they are starting from scratch and seeking new writers and artists gives other creators a chance to shine. As long as these stories do not go in the direction of Sonic Boom or the Post-Super Genesis Wave, the series could truly be a success as it once was.
The series starting back in 2018 gives the creators just enough time to get back on their feet and hit the ground running with the new comic series. I believe that it could take off and do amazing, as long as they stick to their roots this time and do not stray off the original story too much as I felt they were doing before.
