SLJ to write his own pulp fiction

cold_space-sizedSamuel L. Jackson, the coolest man on the face of the planet, is spreading his creative wings further. Not content with being a model for characters in comics (The Ultimates) or starring in comic book movies (Iron Man 2), now he’s going to be writing a comic of his own.

BOOM! Studios has announced that he will be teaming with writer Eric Calderon and artist Jeremy Rock for a space-opera entitled Cold Space. The book is scheduled to hit stores this April.

Jackson and Calderon have previously worked together on the awesome animated series Afro Samurai.

Celebrities working in comics is quite the trend lately. Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof  wrote Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine. Actress Rosario Dawson worked on a book called O.C.T. Model/actor Tyrese Gibson has done Mayhem. Those are just a few celebrity-written titles. Unfortunately, they’re usually uniformly awful. Works by director Kevin Smith and singer Gerard Way are notable exceptions to the celebrity comic=bad rule. While I’m not sure which side of the divide SLJ’s book will fall on, I’m certainly willing to give it a shot based on the man’s reputation, if nothing else.

Here’s the solicitation information released by BOOM!:
