Our first look at Henry Cavill’s Superman

Henry Cavill as Superman

Here he is, Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel. The suit looks pretty good, and seems to follow the Spiderman trend of using darker, heavier, more textured fabric. Cavill strikes me as a more rugged Superman than the polished, iconic look of Brandon Routh in 2006′s Superman Returns, which I happened to really like. But anybody can look good in a cape and red underpants. The real trick is gonna be, can Cavill pull off a convincingly bumbling Clark Kent?

In other Man of Steel news, Laurence Fishburne has joined the cast as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White. It also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Superman’s adoptive parents Martha and Jonathan Kent, and Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as his birth parents. Michael Shannon (Vanilla Sky) plays villain General Zod and Antje Traue (Pandorum) plays his partner Faora.

Man of Steel’s release date has been pushed back to June 2013. Director Zack Snyder is best known for directing 300 and Watchmen. Producer Christopher Nolan, of course, is no stranger to the DC Comics universe with his two Batman films under his utility belt and a third on the way.
