The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog broke the news this weekend that a couple of New Zealanders have been cast in the Green Lantern film.
Taika Waititi, who has directed episodes of Flight of the Concords, will play Hal Jordan’s best friend — but the really big news is that Temeura Morrison, who played bounty hunter Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones and lent his face to the entire army of Republic clone troopers, will play Abin Sur, the dying alien in the comics who turns his power ring over to Jordan and begins his initiation into the Green Lantern Corps.
The movie has a planned release date of June 17, 2011. Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) leads the cast as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who is swept up in the galactic peacekeeping force.
