The 2016 Amazing Arizona Comic Con kicked off the Valentine’s Day weekend with a Friday afternoon full of costumes, casual conversations with creators, and. of course, lots of comics. Enjoy our collection of photos from Friday’s show and be sure to head out to the Amazing AZ con on this Saturday and Sunday to celebrate your love…of comics!
With the Deadpool film opening nationwide on the same day Amazing Arizona Comic Convention opened its doors, of course the “Merc with a mouth” was everywhere on the con floor. Dare I say, ‘overkill?’ So in keeping with the irreverent tone of the film, here’s our obligatory Deadpool photo.
The Valley of the Sun’s favorite son, the heroically creative Shelby Robertson, is at the Amazing AZ convention and he has an art print for every geeky predilection under any sun – the perfect Valentine gift. You can find Shelby at booth #316.
The marvelous Chris Claremont was on hand, wowing excited fans and autographing their comic treasures. Mr. Claremont is best known for his sixteen-year run authoring the Uncanny X-Men comics, but we had the awesome opportunity to sit down and talk to him about everything from John Carter and Edgar Rice Burroughs, to Star Wars and Superman v Batman. Stay tuned for our upcoming articles featuring this comic book legend.
An awesome old west Green Lantern together with a brainy and beautiful Velma Dinkley and shrunken Scooby – this is the kind of surreal scene that makes comic conventions so special. This couple was incredible, and this is the comic team-up I want to see!
The Amazing Arizona Comic Con almost has to have the Amazing Arizona Comics creator, Russ Kazmierczak, who is always happy to talk to fans about his Arizona-born superheroes and their crazy regional adventures. You can find Russ at the Artist’s Alley table #D18.
Artist Joe Rubinstein, best known for inking Wolverine’s very first comic miniseries, was stationed right next to the series author, Chris Claremont, on the Amazing AZ exhibit floor. This Valentine’s Day weekend the perfect time to get your Wolverine books autographed by both of these terrific talents.
Star Wars is dead! No, obviously not the movie franchise… but this gruesome Death Trooper is certainly living up to his name, with zombie stagger and all. Maybe it was just a little too much pre-con partying.
