Lobo’s Big Babe Spring Break Special – Spring 1995
Cover art by Jim Balent

The controversial new film Spring Breakers is about crazy college girls getting mixed up with an ultra-violent gangster and creating perverted mindless mayhem during Florida’s annual moral abandonment affair; but DC Comics’ galactic mercenary, Lobo, beat them to the punch (as he is apt to do) way back in 1995 with Lobo’s Big Babe Spring Break Special.
When you compare this classic comic cover with the Spring Breakers movie poster it makes me wonder if the filmmakers were influenced by the comic – you have to admit that there are definitely some similarities.
I didn’t care much for this movie, but I did admire James Franco’s performance in it, and now that the Rock (Dwayne Johnson) has reportedly distanced himself from the Lobo movie project (see screenrant.com), Franco might be a good alternative choice for the role.
Even though he’s not quite the right size, I think Franco, with his often demented demeanor and versatility, could certainly pull off playing the “Main Man” in a big screen picture. The Lobo film has awesome potential and I really hope it comes to fruition one day. Either the Rock or Franco would be great in the role.
