Notice any new banners this year? That wasn’t the only major change Blizzard had in store for us either!!
Another BlizzCon, another sojourn to Anaheim, CA to get together with other Blizzard fan/enthusiasts for several days of fun which starts the day before picking up our badges! As usual the popular player “SLOWMILK” was #FirstInLine because he has been in town since Sunday and was the first to line up yesterday!! A real benefit to a gathering like this is how everybody there are fans of something you like so there is something for everybody to talk about and since there is nothing else to do a bunch of nerds just start talking to each other and forming bonds that just might (read: probably will) last beyond the weekend to when we get back home and add each other to our in-game friends list. Luckily I’ve been able to do just that the last several years, and not only did I get to run into some people I recognize from talking with them for hours last year, but this year I had the awesome opportunity to meet new people that were really cool and down-to-earth individuals with the same interests and personalities that we shared information so we can find each other when we get home!! THAT has been the real takeaway for me the last few years, sure we have goodies to take home, and sure we get to hear/talk to Blizzard employees, and sure we get to have hands-on time with new games or expansions, but making connections that get to last for years is the BEST thing about BlizzCon! After leaving the convention and visiting Downtown Disney, I received a text from my friend Kai that I meant many years ago!
So now it is 9 am, and we get to go into Hall E, so we make our orderly decent and instantly we sense something different! No longer are we presented with the daunting line which we need to weave through to get our badges, as we immediately head right down a makeshift hallway then swing around the corner to see this dark and atmospheric section of the room that has been cordoned off just for the Blizzard Store! Yet, we don’t have our badges so we can’t enter the bastion of commerce right now and we keep walking to the end of Hall E to find that there are several much shorter lines here which are leading to our badge pickup! Of course on our way to get badges we were handed a small booklet of what was in the Blizzard Store, but there was no way we would be reading it…until we actually get into the Store and that is when we started to drool all over items we had seen as BlizzCon exclusives but with many different brand new items we hadn’t had a chance to set our gazes on.
Let me just say, this was BY FAR the BEST decision Blizzard has made in the last few years of BlizzCon because now people that couldn’t pre-order for any number of reasons could now load up on stuff during the “dead air” of the convention and then enjoy more of the event when it is going on!! I may have gone a bit overboard with all the stuff I picked up, but I’ll recap all of that after the convention is over! :}
Last year I asked “what was in the bag” and this is is the SAME question as we got a Blizzard branded Goody Bag (I used to say goodie bag but the official announcement said differently!) containing all of our physical goodies with the addition of all our digital bonuses too!!
The schedule and map for BlizzCon 2015!
One of the first booths to visit is Intel for a free Heroes of the Storm poster!
An Overwatch 3D emblem?!
A unique Illidan-themed Murloc pin, in honor of the new WoW expansion Legion!
Inflatable Psi blades, obviously related to the Protoss themed StarCraft II expansion coming out next week, Legacy of the Void!
A very cool HearthStone luggage tag!
The very Cute But Deadly Diablo keychain!
A random Heroes of the Storm Funko vinyl figure (I’ll tell you who I got next week)!
As a tease of the swag I got outside of the Goody Bag, I brought along my duplicate Blizzard Series 1 pins from last year for trading this year (follow the hashtag #BlizzardPinTrading) and I was able to get several of the new pins from this year with a story behind the gold Alexstrasza too!
Make sure to keep up with all the Blizzard news direct from the source for the games you are interested in!
That about does it for the pre-day of BlizzCon, but keep it tuned to Nerdvana for a recap of my adventures each day AND follow me on Twitter for live updates from the convention!
