Blizzard Blitz: May 3rd – Random Updates

Blizzard Entertainment

There were a lot of small things in all Blizzard games this week, so check out this post for more on your favorite games!

Is this the “Blizzard Release Effect” in action?  I’m coining this term after seeing Blizzard behavior for some time, where when they get close to a release for one game it seems that most of the other games seem to “suffer” because I think ALL employees get in on the stress/Beta testing to rattle out as many problems close to launch as possible.  That’s a great idea, but a bit frustrating if you are playing a different game which you want to see movement with!

BlizzCon – While the Benefit Dinner tickets for BlizzCon have been sold out, time for getting your live and online contest materials setup is just starting!

Diablo 3 – Did you miss the Play Your Way Thursday livestream?  If so, the VOD has been posted!

HearthStone – Remember how I posted last week about the app on my iPhone taking a lot of battery life?  Well, at the end of the month having the app on your phone can be a lifesaver because it will give you a chance to put in a few extra games towards that goal of Rank 20!  Even with that, due to some losses, I barely made it with any time to spare as I hit Rank 20 just 90 minutes before 12:01 AM on May 1st!!  It seems like at the end of the month everybody else comes out to play for their Rank 20 reward too, so I think I will try to get Rank 20 during the May 2015 Ranked Play Season at the beginning of the month instead of waiting until the last minutes of the month.  Of course, maybe I’ll turn my attention to Blackrock Mountain since the final wing The Hidden Laboratory has been released!

Heroes of the Storm – Last week I let you know that HotS releases in June, and now Blizzard has released the Starter Pack including 5 heroes, a special skin, and a mount available only via this deal!  Since we’re talking about sales, don’t miss out on the Weekly Sale for Sgt. Hammer and a skin for Malfurion!!

StarCraft 2 – There was a Balance Update this week with the Preview giving a lot of background details of these Balance changes.  I really don’t play StarCraft other than doing the campaigns when a new game/expansion comes out, so this Ladder Update does not mean a whole lot but I can tell there are a LOT of changes they have put into Season 2 this year.

World of Warcraft – Of course we had the PTR 6.2 notes released a bit ago, but now we get a preview of the brand new zone Tanaan Jungle which is for level 100 characters.  I think it is odd that it requires your garrison has to be a certain level before you can get access to the content, but since I don’t play WoW right now maybe that is not such a big deal after all.  There are not a whole lot of events going on in May, but there is a whole lot of things listed here so you can get a wide range of things from this event post!  Into the art of WoW?  Then check out the Community Spotlight on an artist and another piece of art from Warlords of Draenor!

Twitter Question of the Week – Q:  @PlayHearthstone What about adding Rank to the friends list, so you know your friends are trying to hit 20 before month end/where they are?  A:  I ran into this “problem” while trying to hit Rank 20, where people on my friends list playing HS didn’t know that I was trying to focus on that goal so they were trying to chat me up a bit or even battle me when I was trying to focus on that Rank 20.  My idea is to let people see what other HS players are doing from a Ranked Play perspective, which would let them know at the end of the month what others are focusing on, but also just might encourage others to try and get a higher Rank than their friends!  Do you think that sounds like a good idea or not?
