Blizzard Release Effect is in full force as not many updates came out this week!

I say the BRE is in full swing since the new Diablo 3 patch is probably being internally tested, and/or the new heroes and map for Heroes of the Storm which is taking the focus away from being able to develop or share new information about the games.  It even could be everybody has to travel back home after gamescom, which you can see the review of and the Video Games Live Blizzard themed concert including an awesome cover of the Overwatch theme!

Diablo 3 – Get this fresh look at Season 4 and remember that Season 3 ends on the 23rd which is likely right before we get Patch 2.3.0 a few days later!  Speaking of Patch 2.3.0, make sure you see the feature on new items and sets we are going to be getting!  Fan of the Play Your Way Thursday livestreams?  Well the last one was put together and streamed, but if you missed it you can catch it on demand!  I’ll miss this feature a bit as I enjoyed getting to see builds with skills and items I haven’t seen or used, and maybe when it comes back there will be more of a chance to enjoy this kind of learning about the game?

HearthStone – Make sure that you get to see this article on the new Joust feature as well as a few new cards too, and then find out what the Road to Americas Championship looks like!

Heroes of the Storm – Read up on the Public Test Realm Patch Notes for the details about the new map and hero which are on the horizon!  Also make sure to set an alarm on Wednesday to watch the latest Brawl with the Blues which just might include either a sneak peek at our new incoming features, or at least showcase them if we got them on Tuesday!!  Check out the Weekly Sale for Li Li, Festival Li Li, and Succubus Kerrigan!  Then make plans to go out to Las Vegas in September to catch the Americas Championship!  Oh, and don’t miss out on the Reddit AMA for Heroes on Thursday!

StarCraft 2 – Check out part one and part two of a three part series in the Arcade about a college class which required the students to use the SC2 editor for their final project!!  Did you enter the SC2 5th year celebration contest?  Is your picture one of the winners?  Looking for actual news about SC2?  Look no further than some Community Feedback!

World of Warcraft – Blizzard is going further with Timewalking by encouraging players to participate with new badges coming, as found in the Patch 6.2.2 PTR Patch Notes, including the weekly quest you can pick up if you did your Burning Crusade Timewalking this week!  Talking about going down memory lane, did you know that 11 years ago Onyxia made her appearance for the first time!?!  Make sure that you use the Raid Finder to locate Destructor’s Rise now!  Excited for Patch 6.2.2 to finally hit?  Is that because you’ll get to learn flying in Draenor?!  I wonder how many of the pets and mounts that are coming soon will be released in Patch 6.2.2?  Of course we also get to answer a burning question for Blizzard, which weapons do we love to spam General or Trade chat with…I mean which ones do we love the best?  Much like last week, the Patch 6.2 Hotfixes do not seem like like a lot of content changes, which could be a good thing and of course another side effect of the BRE we talked about in the opening!  Finally, did you watch the Final North American qualifiers for the World Championship which will be going down at BlizzCon?

Twitter Question of the Week – Q:  @Diablo Can you elaborate on why you decided to give Season 1 transmogs during Season 4? Why should players that didn’t play S1 be rewarded?  A:  I really didn’t expect to get an answer to this, and didn’t get one, but I had to voice my concern that the Diablo developers have decided to hand out rewards that were described as being unique and never to be given out again here (italics mine):

Climbing Leaderboards might not be your thing, so you may find yourself asking “What’s in it for me?” There are incentives for everyone to try their hand in Seasons, including getting first crack at brand new Legendaries and a shiny new Transmogrification set that is exclusive to Season participants.

With Season 1, we’re introducing 10 new Legendaries. These items will initially only be available to Seasonal players until the end of the Season, at which point they’ll be rolled into the regular loot pool for all game modes. In addition, even more handfuls of exclusive Legendaries will be introduced each Season, and will only be available to Season participants until that Season ends.

We’ve also put together a badass new Transmogrification Set that is completely exclusive to Seasonal players. Each Season, you’ll earn a new piece of this excellent armor. What do you need to do to get it? Just hit maximum level during the course of a Season, and your Transmogrification pattern will automagically unlock at the Mystic in all game modes.

So last August the design decision was to make these items unique for players that completed the Seasons, which I did through Seasons 1, 2 and 3, but now players in Season 4 get to own what was special about Season 1?  Why don’t we make the Collector Edition rewards available for everybody that didn’t have enough money to buy them?  How about giving out all the BlizzCon exclusive rewards for everybody that didn’t get to attend, regardless of the people that actually did go and had something special as a result that was unique to them?

I’d like to see Blizzard course correct on this point and develop a new armor set, or failing that, skip the armor sets entirely as a reward during Season 4, because if Seasons 5 and 6 will be giving out the rewards from Seasons 2 and 3 I think that will really harm the community a bit knowing that it doesn’t matter if you participate and achieve results prior to this as you can just jump on the rewards train at any point.
