A new book coming in summer 2018 will continue the adventures of the blue-skinned Imperial grand admiral who has taken Star Wars literature by storm for years.
Thrawn: Alliances will also unite the character with Darth Vader in a more substantial role than this year’s Thrawn. That book saw Timothy Zahn return to the character he created for 1991’s Heir to the Empire, which kicked off the vast Expanded Universe of tie-ins that got rebooted when Disney bought the Lucasfilm empire in 2012.
Since then, Thrawn’s returned in his own self-titled novel and in TV’s animated Star Wars Rebels.
In Thrawn, we learned the Chiss genius had encountered Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, and now as an Imperial officer he met Darth Vader at the end of the novel and joined him in service to their Emperor. Maybe in Alliances we’ll learn details of his meeting with the Jedi legend, and whether he has pieces together the secret of his new Sith identity.
Grand Admiral Thrawn, by the way, will also be back on Rebels when the Disney XD series returns for its fourth and final season Oct. 16.
