Tempe’s Changing Hands to open Phoenix book shop this fall

Tempe’s Changing Hands Bookstore will finally expand into Phoenix this fall, occupying part of the former Beef Eaters Restaurant location at 300 W. Camelback Road, right off the Metro light rail line.

The independent bookstore, which opened in 1974, had eyed the site previously, but last summer put the plan on hold to consider other locations, the Phoenix Business Journal reported.

Writes co-owner Gayle Shanks: “If all goes according to plan, we’ll open the new store in early November. We’re combining forces with two other local businesses: the amazing restaurant group behind the award-winning Beckett’s Table, and three dynamic, energetic women who are creating The Lively Hood, a co-working, meeting and event space for mobile professionals.”

  • It really sounds like they could bring new life to an area that’s been hit pretty hard economically. Are you looking forward to these plans?
