Fantasy author George R.R. Martin will be the guest of honor at this year’s LepreCon, May 14-16 at the Phoenix Marriott Mesa. His best-known work, A Song of Ice and Fire, has just been picked up as a series by HBO after being in development for television for some months.
Debuting next spring, it will be titled Game of Thrones after the first novel in the series, and stars Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings) and Lena Heady (300, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). The first image from the production appears at right.
But back to LepreCon 36, where the artist guest of honor will be Charles Vess. James A. Owen, who writes and illustrates the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica series, is the local artist/author guest of honor.
The convention will feature an art show and auction, a charity auction, gaming, a dealers’ room, modern dance and more. Convention staff is looking for game organizers and volunteers — those who run nine to 10 hours of game events or volunteer to help can get in free.
