Second Friday in Mesa: Steampunk, monsters and more

It’s time again for Second Friday in downtown Mesa — and once again Evermore Nevermore, that funky little collectibles and clothing shop, is leading the charge with a scary good time.

The monthly block party organized by Evermore Nevermore, History By George and Mystic Paper features live music and art booths, but in true Halloween fashion they’re injecting a dose of the bizarre with a “Monsters on Main” theme. Part of downtown will be transformed into “Steampunk Street,” a Victorian techie’s dream with vendors, artisans and costumes on display.

Says Evermore Nevermore: “If you are new to steampunk, it is a genre of art, fashion, and gizmo technology that envisions a future that never was, from the perspective of a citizen of the Victorian era (mid 1800s – early 1900s). This is an awesome opportunity to witness some of the coolest creations ever imagined!”

It’s free and steampunk attire is optional — but encouraged!

Arizona author Lisa McMann will sign copies of her books, and there will be a zombie walk, a horror film festival, carved pumpkin contest and haunted basement tours.
