Rowling apologizes for Dobby’s death on Battle of Hogwarts aniversary

J.K. Rowling is sorry she killed Dobby the house elf.

She offered the apology on May 2, the 20th anniversary of the pivotal Battle of Hogwarts in the Wizarding World universe. Rowling has marked the anniversary by apologizing for one character’s death for each of the past few years.

Even though Dobby’s death occurred several weeks before Voldemort’s forces attacked Hogwarts, Rowling felt it right to recognize his sacrifice:

Rowling has apologized for killing Severus SnapeRemus Lupin and Fred Weasley on previous Battle of Hogwarts anniversaries.
