Shelby Robertson is a freelance illustrator and comic book professional and he is one of the most prolific and popular artists in the valley. His hard work and consistent creativity garnered him the Phoenix New Times ‘Best Comic Book Artist’ award in 2011 and his fantasy and comic themed art prints can be found in most of the comic book shops throughout the valley.
Shelby has worked as an illustrator for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Malibu and at several other independent publishers. He has also provided artwork for the music industry and bands such as Glenn Danzig, Bloodhound Gang and Agent 51. He runs his own independent publishing label, American Dischord, with comic titles that he has written and illustrated himself, like the superhero group called, Superiors: S-Unit and the buxom dinosaur-riding babe known as Latex Alice.
Together with friends and fellow artists Chris Burkheart, James Hiralez and BIGCHRIS, Shelby currently works as an illustrator for video gaming company Burst Online Entertainment. He’s also crazy busy preparing for the 2012 Phoenix Comicon, promising a ton of cool new art prints, but he took a few minutes out to answer our Nerdvana Artist Profile questions.
