IDW adapting Harlan Ellison’s classic Star Trek teleplay into comic miniseries

Star Trek: The City on the Edge of Forever by Harlan Ellison (IDLegendary science fiction writer Harlan Ellison is working with IDW Publishing to resurrect the original script for his classic Star Trek episode “The City on the Edge of Forever” in comic book form. A five-part miniseries based on Ellison’s teleplay will expand on the story, one of the franchise’s most famous and acclaimed but also a far cry from the author’s vision.

In 1968, Ellison’s original script received a Writers Guild Award and the final shooting script received the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, but he has loudly criticized the final version while suing and reaching a settlement with CBS Paramount over various receipts. He even sued the Guild for not representing his interests. But his original script has been republished several times, though this will be the first fully visual treatment.

Don’t you just love the dog-eared, novelization-style cover for the first installment of the IDW miniseries? You can pick it up in June.
