CopperCon discount evaporates Wednesday

Ari Marmell (Mouseferatu.com)CopperCon 32, sponsored by the Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society, will be Aug. 31 to Sept. 3 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Avondale, and after this Wednesday the window to get tickets at an advance discount price will have passed.

Memberships cost $40 through Aug. 15, then rise to $55 at the door. Youths 7-12 get in for half price and children 6 and younger are free.

The author guest of honor is novelist and RPG designer Ari Marmell. James Owen is the local author guest of honor. Filk guest of honor is Chris Dickensen. Pat Connors is fan guest of honor.

Other recently announced guests include East Valley physicist and folk musician Mark Horning,  author Gini Koch, craft panelist Elaine “Lightyr” MacKenzie, Karkyr Malys, author/podcaster/musician Jack Mangan, author Jeffrey J. Mariotte, Arizona Browncoats member Tisha McGovern, ASU Center for Meteorite Studies assistant director Melissa Morris, Joseph Nassise, planetary geologist David M. Nelson, writer Janeen O’Kerry, costumer B. Jean Palmer, geobiologist Kay Pannell and writer-editor Anna Paradox.

Programming includes a discussion of the next Star Trek movie as well as science panels such as NASA’s Curiosity rover mission on Mars, the Dawn mission with background on asteroids and ion drive and moon missions old and new. There will also be round-the-clock gaming with Todd Van Hooser’s Laughing Moon RPG system, Steve Jackson Games, Magic tournaments, LARPing and more. $25 gaming-only memberships are available at the door and in advance.
