Atomic Comics in Mesa is planning a night full of frightful fun.

Against a backdrop of local art, never-ending horror movies and scary-good live local bands, Fright Night will take over the Mesa store, 1120 S. Country Club Dr.

The event kicks off at noon on Saturday with Bizarre Bazaar featuring Madame M. The monthly event spotlights one local creator, who reserves a table and keeps all of the proceeds from sales they make at the event. This time it’s Madame M., who will be doing sketches and selling ghoulish goods like candy blood, T-shirts, patches, the illustrated book Creepy Little Bedtime Stories and a limited-edition coffin-shaped Super Vamp comic.

Starting at 6 p.m. you can meet horror comic creators Daniel Bradford (Robot 13 and KING!) and Ben Glendenning (Zombies vs. Cheerleaders), followed by John Layman (Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness, Chew) at 7 p.m.

The music starts at 9 p.m. with Yesterday’s Promise, followed by The Limit Club at 11 p.m. and horror-punk act Calabrese at 1 a.m.

At 10 p.m., the Cutthroat Freak Show, a local group of circus performers, will entertain the crowd with their fire-breathing, glass-eating and eye-socket weightlifting.

To end things in true fanboy fashion, a costume contest with a “horror hotties” theme will be held at midnight.

Throughout the day, the store will offer 20 percent off purchases of $10 or more and half off the price of back issues.
