ABC has approved plans for a TV spinoff of The Avengers focusing on the secret-agent world of S.H.I.E.L.D. The pilot will be written, and maybe even directed, by Joss Whedon himself.
According to Deadline, Whedon, his brother Jed and Maurissa Tancharoen will be executive producers of the live-action series along with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.
Casting information is doubtless a long ways off, but let the speculation commence!
Since Disney, which owns Marvel Studios, is part of the ABC family, there was never any real chance of a project like this appearing on another network — but it’s good to see that Whedon has shed his bad habit of letting Fox run all his fan-adored TV projects into the ground.
