John Barrowman at Phoenix Comicon 2013

We’re been hearing rumblings of a big, late-breaking guest announcement this weekend from Phoenix Comicon, which is just over a month away over the Memorial Day holiday. And boy, did they deliver.

Don your greatcoats and open the rift: This guest is none other than John Barrowman, who shook things up on Doctor Who as the stylish and omnisexual Captain Jack Harkness and earned his own epic four-season spinoff — Torchwood — before going on to play a big recurring role in the CW’s comic-book inspired series Arrow.

Phoenix Comicon organizers point out that Barrowman is the first Doctor Who star to attend the ever-growing event.

Nerd icon Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Wesley Crusher) recently was confirmed to attend as well.
