Can’t wait for CopperCon? Classic sci-fi film screenings to herald summer convention

The special events continue leading up to summer’s CopperCon Revolution. Following last month’s special screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and the original series episode “Space Seed” and fresh off recent guest announcements, the Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society will screen two classic sci-fi films Aug. 1: 2001: A Space Odyssey and the far campier Plan 9 From Outer Space. The screenings, 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. respectively Aug. 1 at Pollack Tempe Cinemas, will cost $10 to the general public but only $5 with a CopperCon Revolution membership.

In addition to those recent guest announcements, CopperCon Revolution has added Silver Age DC Comics illustrator Liz Safian-Berube, whose credits include Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Young Romance. The convention is Aug. 8-11 at Mesa’s Windemere Hotel, one week after the film screenings. A full membership costs just $35 through April 30; ages 7-12 are admitted at half price and 6 and younger get in free (two per paid full membership).
